PURPOSE

What is the purpose of this website?

The purpose of this website is to break gender stereotypes. Gender stereotypes are a big issue and throughtout history, there is an non-ending cycle. Women are proving to the world their entire lives that they are just as capable as men; majority of men are raised to be the more dominant one and not to show emotions. Artists, such as Eli Rezkallah and Rebecca Foster, through their artwork somehow broke these stereotypes of the sexes....

Rebecca Foster

London-based artist  whose work shows how stereotypes about men can be just as damaging as it is for women.

Camille Claudel

This artwork shows that because of set roles, women are overshadowed of their genius. This sculpture touches on the woman's conflict to be strong and loved.

Eli Rezkallah

Rezkallah created a photo series called, "In a Parallel Universe," which takes vintage ads from the mid-20th century that are sexist and trades the gender roles.

Sofonisba Anguissola's Chess Game(1555

In this art piece, Anguissola portrays individuals as they were rather than what the world portrays them to be. In this picture, they are also playing chess, a game of logic that is better suited for men.

Nina Katchadourian

This is a self-portrait of the artist herself. The purpose of her work is to show that she can change people's view of cross-dressing that is viewed as unnatural in society by using natural products such as honey and caterpillars.
