Hey everyone! Welcome to my website Trading Places. This is my first time ever blogging, so I’m excited and a bit nervous. It may not last, but it will all be worth it at the end. So, as the home page mentioned, the purpose of my website is to break stereotypes, specifically gender stereotypes. This website will not end gender roles, but it will be a simple step to that direction.

What made me start this project is my Arts and Activists class that I have this semester. As a class, we are supposed to change the world sort of speak and make ourselves known. When choosing a topic that is an issue in society, a project that I did previously came to mind. I made a trophy for another art class and that trophy represents breaking racial stereotypes. Because I discussed racism, I wanted to focus this assignment on gender since it can touch everyone.

Stereotypes on gender is such a huge issue today. Women have to prove that they can be just as capable as men and men have to strong, having no emotions. These sayings about genders can be damaging to men just as it is for women. Gender roles can start mostly because of two reasons: 1)From a book that I have read, many of these stereotypes start when children are young. For example, boys are raised to play with toy nerf guns and sports balls where girls play with dolls and kitchen sets. 2) Cultures have different views of set gender roles. In Latin America, men are called Machismos, men who are dominant and have a lot of pride. Women are called Mariaimsa and are supposed to the nurturing, motherly.

It can take a toll on someone having these expectations and limitations on who or what you can be. This website is meant for people to share stories where they felt confided in doing that they want to do for the simple fact that it is not what people their gender does. I hope you enjoyed reading this post and stay tuned for more to come......
